Why it exists
It was often cheaper to bin a washer than to fix it. Ecodesign makes products repairable; this Directive makes someone actually repair them.
What actually changes
- A manufacturer obligation to repair listed products beyond the guarantee, unless repair is impossible.
- During the legal guarantee, sellers must offer repair unless it is more expensive than replacement.
- Information on a website about repair services, and a European repair platform (full operation later).
- A European Repair Information Form so quotes can be compared.

From 31 July 2026, sellers should offer repair during the legal guarantee, and manufacturers of listed goods must offer repair after it — at a reasonable price. National law is what you enforce.
